Tim Thies was a programmer who I worked with for a few months several years ago.
He loved his sports, especially fantasy sports. He ran fantasy football and
basketball leagues, and participated in the company football pool. He also had
a habit of only showing up for work when he felt like it. For example, he
called up from Florida one day to say he wouldn't be in to work. After scheduling
a Friday and Monday off (his supervisor apparently okayed this), he strolled in
Wednesday morning and was fired for attendance problems.
The company routinely reviewed departed employees' saved files so that
unnecessary ones could be deleted and needed ones could be transferred to someone
else. When they reviewed Tim's files, they found some 60+% of them related to
fantasy sports, football pool, and other non-business related subjects.
So, in remembrance of our dear departed Mr. Thies we proudly bear the name
